$8.7m Contract to Build Ro-Ro Terminal at Anzali Port

EghtesadOnline: Khatam al-Anbiya Construction Headquarters has signed a contract with Anzali Trade-Industrial Free Zone Organization for the construction of a Ro-Ro facility and a multi-purpose wharf at the Caspian port of Anzali.

News ID: 748400

The contract, signed on Saturday, is worth 1 trillion rials ($8.7 million).

The contract was signed between Khatam al-Anbiya Engineering Company’s Managing Director Saeed Mohammad and CEO of Anzali Free Trade Zone Reza Masrour, Iribnews.ir reported.

According to Mohammad, the company will complete the project and fulfill its obligations by mid-2021, Financial Tribune reported.

“Rail transits through the Caspian port will reach 5 million tons per year,” he said.

According to Masrour, the facility would be specifically of interest to China and its cargo vessels that sail from Kazakhstan’s Aktau Port.

Roll-on/roll-off (RORO or ro-ro) facilities are designed to carry wheeled cargo, such as cars, trucks, semi-trailer trucks, trailers and railroad cars that are driven on and off the ship on their own wheels or using a platform vehicle, such as a self-propelled modular transporter.

Anzali Port is in the eponymous trade-industrial free zone, Gilan Province. It is Iran's only free zone in the north and connects the country to the Commonwealth of Independent States, Russia and other Caspian states.

Khatam al-Anbiya Construction Headquarters is an Iranian engineering firm controlled by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps. The firm is IRGC's major engineering arm and one of Iran's largest contractors in industrial and development projects.

The headquarters was created during the 1980–88 Iraq-imposed war to help rebuild the country and has diversified over the years with specialized companies dealing with mechanical engineering, energy, mining and defense.
